What is Sabbath day?

In my previous article I discussed about "What day is the Sabbath day?". Now lets discuss about what is Sabbath day.

1. Its a day that God blessed and sanctified

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (Gen 2:3, KJV)

2. Its a day to be remembered and keep as holy

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exo 20:8, ESV)

3. Its a day where God's people are gathered together and have worship

You have six days in which to do your work, but remember that the seventh day, the Sabbath, is a day of rest. On that day do not work, but gather for worship. The Sabbath belongs to the LORD, no matter where you live. (Lev 23:3, GNB)

4. Its in the ten commandments. (Exo 20:8-11)

5. Its the day that Jesus and the disciples keep

Then Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath he went as usual to the synagogue. He stood up to read the Scriptures (Lk 4:16, GNB)

So as usual, Paul went there to worship, and on three Sabbaths he spoke to the people. He used the Scriptures (Acts 17:2, CEV)

Then they went back home and prepared the spices and perfumes for the body. On the Sabbath they rested, as the Law commanded. (Lk 23:56, GNB)

6. Its a joyful day

But first, you must start respecting the Sabbath as a joyful day of worship. You must stop doing and saying whatever you please on this special day. (Isa 58:13,CEV)

7. Its a day where all your work should be set aside.

 but the seventh day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day--not you, your children, your slaves, your animals, or the foreigners who live in your towns. (Exo 20:10, CEV)

8. Its a day for all the people.

And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mk 2:27, ESV)
